Since 1985, FoundCare has called on the community to help meet its mission to provide quality healthcare and social services for all individuals and families. Although many individuals, foundations, and sponsors have given generously to FoundCare, one philanthropist stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic when FoundCare needed him most.

John F. Scarpa, Founder and former President and Chief Operating Officer of American Cellular Network Corporation and Co-Founder of UNITEL Wireless Communications Systems, donated KN95 masks to FoundCare when supplies were hard to find. When FoundCare kept their health centers open despite other health center closures in the community, Mr. Scarpa donated state-of-the-art no-contact body temperature scanners to all FoundCare health centers. When FoundCare announced their plan to build a new health center at 5867 Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach, Mr. Scarpa not only gave generously to help complete the project but also rallied other community members to get behind FoundCare’s mission. These extraordinary individuals and foundations include Diane and Marc Spilker, Irina and Marcel Van Poecke Foundation, Addison Hines Charitable Trust, Sondra and David S. Mack, Palm Beach Country Club Foundation, Michael and Mary Ann Pontano, Howard and Judy Bernick, and Joel M. Pashcow to name a few.

“We must all recognize that the most important thing you can do is care for other people,” said Scarpa. “Aside from everything else in this world, caring for individuals, caring for those who are less fortunate, caring for those with significant medical issues, and just caring in general for everyone in our lives is important. I am very proud to be a part of FoundCare and what they do for our community.”

Every year, FoundCare hosts their signature fundraising event, À Votre Santé (To Your Health), in Palm Beach. The 2023 fundraiser will be held under the stars on March 8th at the Morton and Barbara Mandel Recreation Center Front Lawn. Featuring live music, extravagant food, and a silent auction, À Votre Santé will recognize donors and sponsors who “planted the seeds” for FoundCare. These supporters helped FoundCare grow to seven facilities that collectively schedule over 156,000 patient visits per year (compared to 12,267 during FoundCare’s first year of service). FoundCare is pleased to recognize John Scarpa as this year’s Honoree for his selfless contributions that have helped grow FoundCare’s footprint. This includes FoundCare’s new service site, located at 3501 Broadway in Riviera Beach, projected to open in 2024.

“Mr. Scarpa is one of FoundCare’s greatest blessings,” said FoundCare CEO Christopher Irizarry. “To this day, Mr. Scarpa rallies some of the most selfless people I have ever met to get behind FoundCare’s mission and contribute to our expansion efforts. When you see our remarkable organization firsthand and the people we are able to help, it really puts into perspective the value of quality health care and how important access is for those we serve.”

“FoundCare is one of the best-kept secrets in Palm Beach County,” continued Scarpa. “It is time their story be told to everyone because of what they do.”

FoundCare offers pediatric, adult, and geriatric primary care, chronic disease management, behavioral health services, dentistry, laboratory services, women’s health, screening mammography, and an on-site pharmacy. FoundCare’s services are accessible throughout their locations in Palm Beach County, with their Palm Springs health center conveniently offering all services in one location. FoundCare accepts most insurance plans, Medicaid, Medicare, and self-pay on a sliding fee scale based on household size and income. No one is turned away due to the inability to pay.
