FoundCare expanding breast, cervical cancer screenings in West Palm Beach - WPBF

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Women in West Palm Beach will now have another place to get critical medical screenings.

Nonprofit FoundCare is expanding breast and cervical cancer screenings at its Yolette Bonnet Center on Okeechobee Boulevard.

FoundCare’s CEO Christopher Irizarry said their data shows there’s a lack of access for breast and cervical cancer screenings in the area, which is why they’ve been working to make it more accessible to help as many women as possible.

“There's a woman in the centerpiece of every family. And we have to protect our women and make sure they’re healthy,” Irizarry said.

Foundcare is expanding its women’s health partnership program through federal funding and a partnership with the Promise Fund, which is donating medical equipment towards the cause.

“That will help more women in Palm Beach County get access to early cancer screenings, mammography and expanded services as part of women's health care,” Jennifer Alcaraz, the director of communications for FoundCare, said.

Its building on the success of the nonprofit’s Palm Springs location, which has served more than 10,000 women since 2020.

“It's important that if we can do everything in one place at one time, that the woman has the access. So, if they come for their well-woman visit once a year, we can do the mammography right then and there. It's a world of difference,” Irizarry said.

FoundCare also provides these services to people regardless of their insurance status or if they have the ability to pay.

“You know, it is such an important part of our mission, I think, to make sure that women are healthy because we know how dependent a family is on the women, the burden that they carry, and all the things that women do through a household every single day. It's unparalleled,” Irizarry said.

FoundCare’s Yolette Bonnet Center is already scheduling these screening appointments and once up and running they expect to see anywhere from 7 to 10 patients a day.
