PRIMARY PURPOSE: 

The Computer Support Specialist is a staff position within the IT support group accountable for ensuring continuity of computer/telecommunication system services for computer users by providing the technical expertise, assistance and project coordination necessary to install computer software products, modify/repair hardware and resolve technical problems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  

  • Provides telephone, in-person and online support to end-users.
  • Support and educate staff in systems accessibility and proper computer operation.
  • As a super user, provide initial training in facilities and applications to end users
  • Assure continuity of the computer system for all system users.
  • Identifies and procures the hardware and software needed to satisfy user requirements / applicability to organizational environment.
  • Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components, office applications and recommend changes in software and hardware to improve computer capabilities.
  • Assist in implementing practices that will more effectively utilize MIS resources plus assists in the customization and adaptation of existing programs to meet users’ requirements.
  • Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, disk drives on users’ premises and telecommunication equipment.
  • Provides updates, status and completion information to CIO and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person communication.
  • Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.
  • Be "on-call" for all periods as assigned by CIO.
  • Consistently renders “WOW!” customer service.
  • Attend agency staff and other meetings in the community as assigned.
  • Maintain client and family confidentiality.   
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Assist with agency fundraising activities as requested, including promoting events, selling tickets, soliciting donations, and other tasks to support events.        
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of computer/telecommunication systems.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
  • Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Clear understanding that the FoundCare program and related agencies provides information on educating individuals about safer sex practices which could include but not be limited to: exposure to explicit language, explicit printed material, and descriptions of explicit sexual activities, as part of the agency’s mission in the prevention and transmission of HIV disease.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to endure short, intermittent, and/or long periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 25 pounds or less over periods of 100 yards.
  • Transport him/herself to other agency departments, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-site agency locations to accomplish job responsibilities, attend meetings, workshops, seminars, etc.
  • Accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies e.g. pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboard, telephone, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of experience as a computer specialist.
  • Possess excellent technical capacity, organizational skills, customer focus, initiative, problem-solving/analysis, thoroughness and time management.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position are required.
  • Ability to present a professional image of the organization to members of the community.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
